Park Rangers Fatally Shoot Threatening Suspect at Yellowstone

A confrontation at Yellowstone National Park involving a man armed and allegedly issuing threats ended with him dead after a firefight with park rangers, according to the National Park Service. The incident also left one ranger wounded.

The violence broke out in the Canyon Village area, situated in the central region of the park in Wyoming, during the latter part of the night and into Thursday morning. Officials reported that rangers were dispatched following alerts of an armed individual threatening others. Upon making contact, gunfire was exchanged.

The identity of the suspect who was killed has not yet been disclosed.

The injured ranger has been reported to be in stable condition at a nearby medical facility.

Following the altercation, the National Park Service confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The FBI with assistance from NPS special agents is now leading the probe into the events.

Access around the Canyon Lodge complex is currently restricted as the investigation continues.
