Pastor Nick Neves of Antioch, California, thwarted a burglary at his church on Thanksgiving Day.
Despite being attacked by the suspect, Neves used his martial arts training to subdue him. The suspect had broken a window with an ax and was attempting to flee with stolen items.
“God protected me,” Neves said. “I grabbed him and we wrestled for 15 minutes.”
The Antioch Police Department commended Neves’ actions, saying he “held down the perp until APD arrived.”
“We are thankful today that the pastor was uninjured,” the police department stated. “With amazing community members like this, we can turn the tide on crime in our city.”
