Planets Align for Rare Sky Show This Month

Additional Coverage:

Prepare for an extraordinary celestial display this January. Six planets will align in the night sky, with four visible to the naked eye.

Venus and Saturn will appear close together in the west after dark. Jupiter will shine brightly in the south, while Mars will be visible in the east with a reddish hue.

These four planets will remain visible throughout the month, as the waning moon’s light will not interfere. However, Uranus and Neptune will require a telescope to observe.

Venus will be visible until April, reaching its brightest point on February 14th. Saturn’s rings will be clearly visible with a telescope.

This planetary parade is a rare occurrence, and it won’t happen again annually like other celestial events. Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars will be in opposition for the rest of the month, meaning they will be directly opposite the Sun from Earth.
