Seven San Antonio Officers Shot in Standoff

Additional Coverage:

Seven San Antonio police officers were injured in a shootout Wednesday night while responding to a call about a suicidal man. The incident unfolded at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex on Stone Oak Parkway.

Police Chief William McManus identified the suspect as 46-year-old Brandon Poulos. Poulos was found dead inside an apartment after an hours-long standoff. It’s unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or the result of police gunfire.

According to Chief McManus, Poulos had been arrested three times just days before the shooting, twice for assault and once for driving while intoxicated. He was out on bond at the time of the incident.

The initial call to police came from a family member around 8:30 p.m. One apartment resident witnessed an officer being treated for what appeared to be a leg wound. He also captured video of the shootout.

SWAT officers arrived after all seven officers had been shot. Chief McManus said all of the injured officers are expected to recover.
