Lawsuit Filed in Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

The Justice Department has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the companies responsible for the ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, killing six construction workers.

The lawsuit alleges that the Singapore-based companies, Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, knew of issues on the ship that could cause power outages. The massive vessel lost power and struck a bridge column, leading to the collapse.

The U.S. government spent over $100 million responding to the disaster and reopening the Port of Baltimore. Maryland may also seek damages for rebuilding the bridge.

The companies have not yet commented on the lawsuit, but a spokesperson said they look forward to defending themselves in court.

Families of three construction workers killed in the collapse have also announced plans to seek legal action.

Maria del Carmen Castellon, who lost her husband in the tragedy, said she wants justice for the "heroes" who died while working to improve infrastructure.
