Additional Coverage:

Over the weekend in Nigeria, a series of suicide bombings left at least 30 people dead and over 100 injured, according to reports from Sunday.

The initial explosion on Saturday involved a female perpetrator, as explained by Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, the Emir of Gwoza, during a press briefing. “The first attack was orchestrated by a woman who, disguised with two children, entered the wedding celebration of a well-known young man in Gwoza. She triggered her explosive vest, killing herself and numerous attendees,” the Emir stated.

He further recounted that shortly after, another assailant entered a funeral happening close by and set off explosives, leading to additional victims. “As we speak, a third blast occurred minutes ago, resulting in even more casualties,” the Emir disclosed.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu strongly criticized the bombings, labeling them as cowardly terror acts that reflect the extremists’ desperation and the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts. Tinubu assured the public of his government’s commitment to enhancing security and his determination to apprehend those behind the attacks.

As of now, no organization has stepped forward to claim responsibility for these heinous acts.
