Garcia Glen White Executed for 1989 Murders
On Tuesday evening, Garcia Glen White was executed in Huntsville, Texas, for the 1989 murders of twin teenage sisters Annette and Bernette Edwards. White had previously been convicted of killing their mother, Bonita Edwards, in the same incident.
White’s attorneys had argued that he suffered from mental health issues and crack cocaine addiction, but the courts rejected these claims. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene and stop the execution.
White, 61, had been a talented football player before a career-ending injury led him to take on menial jobs and eventually become addicted to crack. In 1989, he allegedly killed Bonita Edwards and her daughters in their apartment, just weeks before Christmas.
The murders remained unsolved until 1996 when White was linked to the killings of a convenience store clerk and a woman. He was only convicted of murdering the Edwards sisters.
Several relatives of White’s other victims were present at his execution at the Huntsville Unit correctional facility.
