TikTok Outage Reported

Additional Coverage:

TikTok has been removed from app stores in the US due to a legal requirement. The ban is expected to take effect on Sunday.

Apple has confirmed that TikTok and other ByteDance apps are no longer available in the US. Samsung and Google Play stores have also removed the app, citing legal reasons.

Users who already have TikTok installed may still be able to use it for now. However, they cannot download the app if they delete it or move to a new device.

The Supreme Court ruled that TikTok must cut ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, or face a ban. The Biden administration initially said it would not enforce the ban, but TikTok requested more assurance.

The White House called TikTok’s request a “stunt.” President Trump has suggested he may grant TikTok a 90-day extension to avoid the ban.

TikTok apps will no longer receive updates on Apple devices, and some functions may stop working. The apps are still available in app stores outside the US, but users visiting the US may face restrictions.
