US Weapons To Ukraine Face Likely Destruction

Western Weapons in Ukraine Conflict

As the war in Ukraine rages, experts warn that many of the advanced weapons provided by the West may not survive the conflict. The experts argue that Ukraine must use these weapons boldly and strategically to maximize their impact.

Intense Warfare and High Risks

The conflict is intense and protracted, requiring Ukraine to take significant risks with its weapons. Using them to their full potential means accepting the possibility of losses.

“If any of the F-16s make it to the end of the war, they probably weren’t used hard enough,” said Michael Bohnert, an air warfare expert.

Maximizing Potential

Ukraine has received a limited number of Western weapons, such as Abrams tanks and F-16 fighters. To maximize their effectiveness, Ukraine must push them to their limits.

“The maximization of potential means that a lot, if not all of them, may be destroyed,” said William Alberque, a warfare expert. “But if they’re destroying Russian forces, it’s worth it.”

Risk and Necessity

While the risk of losing weapons is significant, Alberque emphasizes that it’s essential for Ukraine to take risks. “You can’t use F-16s effectively if you don’t fly them,” he said.

Bohnert agrees, arguing that the West should allow Ukraine to use the weapons as it sees fit, including targeting Russian territory.

Not the Best Equipment

Experts note that the weapons provided to Ukraine are not the most advanced models. The Abrams tanks lack the latest upgrades, and the F-16s are fourth-generation fighters.

“We’re not giving them the best of the best,” said Alberque. “But it’s still capable equipment that can be used to make a difference.”
